Around the chaos of traffic and growing civilization, there was no place to be a shelter for everyone in every way. This leads to the concept of the project which is an oasis in the city to be a shelter for people and a habitat for animals. Oasis is a fertile spot in a desert where water is found which has compared to a fertile historical and environmental place in the city. So, the vision of this project is to be a new place in Bangkok that is healing mind, body, and soul.
The Soul shelter: the way to recover your Soul
With the belief that trusting in the sense of place, the healing soul is the way to raise the core history which speaks of how prominent this place means to Bangkok and people’s spirits. As a result, I identify a soul shelter as a shelter that can fulfill a sense of history by experiencing an educational story about trains and train stations in Makkasan. Furthermore, developing people’s souls sustainably leads to providing an outdoor classroom to learn how to deal with ruined environmental ecosystems caused by man.
The Soul that connects between Place and Mind
Because of funding needs, the heritage factory is gradually modified to be a historical museum that educates people on how significant this place is and lets them be impressed with the unseen fascinating architectural structure. To keep the unique structure of other factories, choices to change the material and function are effective for these circumstances. Therefore, the old factory is changed to be a temporary exhibition hall that allows any stakeholders to use this for an exhibition on various scales, especially for art exhibitions. As a consequence, this area would be compatible with all generation’s interests
The Pleasure shelter: Body and mind Pleasures
Physical activities are the most expected things people need in the recreational park. Pleasure shelter is here to recover from stress whether from work or life’s problems through physical and mental healing activities. Pleasure is defined as a place that feels free to do anything. Accordingly, besides sports and exercise activities you can have a great time attending special events settled on the event lawn which is flexible and adaptable for all ventures.
With the tremendous event lawn in the middle of this recreational park, the visitor experience happens along the perimeter of the round enclosure and on the paths that slope downward
for insight into the performances such as music concerts and talent shows, creating the freest and most naturalistic possible environment for people's lives and relationships with each other. Moreover, workshop cabins are freely provided for anyone who wants to improve their skills where are situated inside the urban forest, creating an immersive experience with nature on both sides. Another huge lawn is created for being a weekend market to support community occupations and being a detention pond carrying 80,000-liter precipitation to resolve the flooding problem.
The Calm shelter: the therapist's Calm area
Peace and serenity are the main goals for this therapist park creating silence and a calm environment to relieve all obstacles from the mind. Forest and water features provide an atmosphere that promotes a healthy environment infused into healthy living. Furthermore, it has been designed as a habitat for birds in an urban area, planting various species of edible trees which can magnetize creatures around Makkasan to live here. Consequently, these make the calm shelter, not just a shelter to rehabilitate people’s minds but also a shelter for any urban creatures who need a place to be settled and live.
The OASIS: Shelter for Everyone
With all of these, an oasis would be a perfect combination to relieve the body, mind, and soul of all people. Besides providing lots of personal benefits, this place encourages people to have a relationship with each other, creating a community and social movements for the city. Moreover, it also creates a relationship between the outer and inner perception to connect human natural experience and conduct that response to the particularities of site and circumstance. All in all, this project is willing to be a new shelter in Bangkok where everyone pleasures staying.
