Mae Ramphan river, the ancient river that flows along with the Sukhothai old town, revives the human well-being around with its fertility of resources. The old village around the Mae Ramphan river received ecosystem services from the Sukhothai era. The major roles of this river are essential resources both in the dry season and wet season. But after moving the capital town from the old place to the new one near the Yom River, Mae Ramphan river was ignored and abandoned by the villager.
Consequently, the relationship between the river and humans is not the same as in the past, leading to lacking river maintenance, which worsens the environment and all creatures around there. So, this thesis project will be the alternative option for the resolution of river restoration and raising human well-being.
This would be an example of the nature-based solution for ecology landscape architecture that deals with the river dynamic. Moreover, emphasizing the river potential in any other ways rather than the environmental benefit will support Sukhothai human society to be a green economy.
This project's area is located in Mae Ramphan River Basin which is a sub-basin of Yom Basin that covered all over the Sukhothai area. Mae Ramphan river continuously runs from Lampang to Sukhothai for 70 kilometers. An example of a design area represented different landscape characteristics that are the agricultural area consisting of a paddy area and crops.
The concept strategy to design the river basin plan for this project is to restore the river cycle through green and blue infrastructure development. Moreover, building the relationship between the river area and humans by creating various activities is fulfilling the experiences of nature understanding. As a consequence, connecting the nature-human relationship consists of many dimensions such as social, economic and, culture.
