The project came up with the concept of a healthy city which is an urban project for Korat or Nakornrachasrima province. Starting with defining the meaning of a healthy city, we compared Korat to an unhealthy body that needed to heal in the right way. As a consequence, we diagnosed symptoms into 3 categories which are ER, UR, and OPD to operate the design that can properly cure along with the level of severity. Then, we separated the city plan into 4 parts to design in a different concept.
Our concept is Revitamin, a combination of reviving and vitamin, to bring back the life of the city. The core is the gates that connect one another into the middle part of the city so, we can state the different gates to heal the body, heart, and mind. All in all, we believed that restoring the livelihood of the Korat people would encourage the city to be a better city and a healthy city.
Starting with the Ponsan gate, this area has a lot of traffic which is dangerous for people
who walk on the street so, we tried to redesign it by making a walkway higher than the street and
also making a sunken bike lane and jogging trail. Besides, we designed the bridge to connect the canal flow and the port to make a riverside feel when it was used by people around there. This area mainly focused on the concept of healing the mind so the design was looking
forward to the aesthetic that made both visual effects and relaxation at the same time. Moreover,
the materials and structures were inspired by the history of Korat, exaggerating the sense of place
that affected people’s minds.
Secondly, coming up with the Ponlarn gate, this gate is located in the middle of the plan and also the middle of transportation that led to the concept of the heart, the heart of Korat that is not only connecting between essential transportation but also, connecting mind and body concept to be a soul healing hub. As a consequence, we designed the transportation hub together with the market to serve accommodations for travelers and passengers and also repeated the sunken jogging and walkway making the pathway not interrupted by vehicle transportation.
The last part was the prison. We stated the prison as the symbol of unpleasantness, a place that felt uncomfortable. Accordingly, poping up an idea to make a contrasting
concept, we redesigned an old prison to become a pleasant place to live where people can receive not only body pleasant but also the community and sociable pleasure by making an outdoor fitness and indoor center for people. Furthermore, we still designed this place to have a playground for the kid and skateboard areas for teenagers too, making every generation can use this area to exercise.
All in all, this project would be one of the choices that Korats for Korat will keep the concept or the design to adapt to real-life work in the city. The main objective of the project for me is to improve human well-being in Korat not only for education. So that the concept to revive the soul would affect not just Korat people but, for a landscape architect like me to encourage myself to do work for others.
